Four warriors depart to opposite ends of Selden. Each with a different quest, all with the aim to destroy the forces of darkness amassing in the West.
Thom seeks passage across the Vale, the shimmering purple curtain which hides the Nunari dominion from sight. Having travled across it once before, he now knows the danger which lay beyond and seeks seafare travel instead.
Lucan, having been named the new prophet of Viritus goes to the Alvine dominion where the armies of men seek the aid of the orcs in fighting the evil scorge. Lucan hopes to convince the leader of the Knights of Viritus, Robert Blackbryre, to step down from his leadership, renounce his false prophetizing, and give command of the forces to Lucan.
Drizzt travels to the South-East of Selden, in the last vestiges of the Nunari dominion yet unsoilded by the veil. There a bandit army, 10,000 strong gathers, building war machines, and gathering supplies for the battles to come. Drizzt hopes to inflitrate the army, cause mistief from within, find out all he can, and perhaps take down some leaders while he is there.
Meanwhile, within the ranks of the Bandits, a sorceror is quickly climbing. His name is Keegan, a remnant from the recently sacked College of Viritus; he renounced his holy ways after seeing his people slaughtered under the banner of the White Cloaks, and now seeks revenge. He has been appointed to the rank of Master Sorceror and now leads a contingent of mages, 50 strong.
